Toledo Honored by America in Bloom With Flowers and Trees

A national honor was bestowed upon the city of Toledo by Mayor Carty Finkbeiner who announced the wonderful news this past week. Toledo’s streets are packed flowers in the medians, its botanical garden, the Maumee River waterfront, tree-lined neighborhoods and most households have flowerbeds packed with blooms.

Toledo Honored by America in Bloom With Flowers and TreesMr. Finkbeiner holding up the award from the nonprofit organization America in Bloom said, “I’ve been saying for years that Toledo is blossoming. Today we have additional proof of that.”

The mayor said that this award was actually more proof of the fact that Toledo is a great place to live in. He stressed greatly that even though times are tough the city needs to stay beautiful.

Councilman Joe McNamara has often criticized Finkbeiner, but this time around even he was unable to hide his pleasure with the new honour.

Mr. McNamara said, “What I learned recently in Chicago and Milwaukee is that we can use green infrastructure as part of our storm water management and this not what Toledo is doing now, but I think we can beautify the city and reduce the chances of a combined sewer overflow.”
