Sweet Pea season is nearly here at Flowers24Hours London flower shop!
Thankfully winter is finally nearing its end and one more reason to be cheerful is that the 2014 sweet pea season is almost here, meaning these lovely flowers will soon be available for flower delivery in London and the UK, and to buy as gifts online from London florist Flowers24Hours.
Wholesalers are reporting that the first flowers are already starting to show and they are expecting to send out their first cut sweet pea flowers by the middle of March. These quintessentially English flowers come in a variety of colours, from dark red to pastel summer shades, have soft, delicate ruffled petals and the most wonderful scent, but their season is quite short, so you have to make the most of them while they’re around!
When the sweet peas start coming in, it’s a sure sign spring has arrived, so we can’t wait to welcome the first deliveries of sweet pea gifts to the Flowers24Hours flower shop. Sweet pea flowers lend a lovely cottage feel to flower arrangements and bouquets and as a climber, if they’re planted in the garden they will gladly grow through other shrubby plants, helping to create gorgeous colour up against fences or garden walls. Whether you buy them as cut flowers to display in a vase at home, or seeds to grow in the garden, be sure to give your sweet peas lots of TLC though, as they are very delicate and require special care.
As soon as you get your cut sweet peas home, or receive them if your order flowers for delivery online, make sure you re-cut stems at a sharp angle and place directly in a vase filled with fresh, cold water, in a cool spot away from direct sunlight, drafts, or sources of heat. Change the water and re-cut stems every day, and your sweet peas should last at least one week. Occasional light misting also helps to keep the flowers looking fresh.
When arranging sweet peas, bear in mind that they don’t have very stiff, upright stems, so they work best in vases that will support their necks. Pastel blue and lavender varieties of sweet pea look lovely when combined with delicate lilac flowers and pale pink, dark red and deep purple varieties look wonderful mixed together, or combined with similar coloured freesias, lisianthus and stock, which will give a pretty wildflower look.
Sweet peas are also popular spring and early summer wedding flowers, and are perfect for creating an English country garden style theme at weddings or other events. Another delicate flower that complements them perfectly is scabious, which comes in a variety of colours from white, through to pale and deep blue, dark burgundy and pale pink. Add to this some antique roses, veronica, astrantia, nigella and tanacetum daisies and you have a perfectly pretty seasonal flower arrangement or bridal bouquet.
Flower delivery and online gifts are a great way to show someone you care when you cannot be there. Celebrate the season and give someone you know a sweet pea gift or send flowers to London with Flowers24Hours.
