Ikebana – The Japanese Art of Flower Arranging
The Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles will be holding a new exhibition, “Living Flowers: Ikebana and Contemporary Art.” Ikebana is the traditional Japanese art of arranging flowers and these flower displays will be accompanied by works of contemporary art.
Visitors of the museum will be challenged to compare the flower arrangements with works of art. Eleven different arrangements of flowers have been created for the show and they rotate among other works of art. These are living sculptures which means that every time you visit the exhibit the pieces have changed.
The art of the ikebana has been around for about half a millennium. This art form takes a lot of discipline but it is a dynamic and vibrant art. The flowers give the art a living element and create a new ambiance.
