Flowers are in Bloom in India Despite Extreme Heat
April in Mumbai is already turning out to be pretty hot with spring retreating already. However, there are many gardens with flowers blooming, especially the gerbera which is bearing the heat extremely well.
The gerbera is an ornamental plant which is related to the sunflower. This flower was given its name after German Traugott Gerber who was a well-known naturalist. It is found in Africa through to Madagascar, Asia and South America, with about 40 different species of this bloom.
The gerbera is most widely known for its use as cut flowers or as a decorative garden plant.
This flower comes in a wide variety of colors, shapes and sizes. They are usually white, yellow, orange, red, and pink, with a black center. It is very common for a flower to have several differently colored petals.
Commercially the gerbera has a lot of importance. After the rose, carnation, chrysanthemum and tulip, it is the most popular cut flower. Also in studies about the formation of flowers the gerbera is often used as a model.
