Flower Producers In Trouble Along With The Economy
Producers and exporters of flowers and other horticultural products are feeling the heat as demand for flowers and other plants is on the decline.
The executive director of the Tanzania Horticultural Association, Ms Jacqueline Mkindi, said, “The crisis has posed a big threat to a significant number of local horticultural producers. Some are considering closing down their businesses.”
This is one of the toughest times to arise in the past 30 years, according to the lobby group of major horticultural producers and exporters.
Significant reductions have been forced on emerging markets by the current situation in the world economy. There is a lower demand for flowers and consumers are spending less.
The prices of flowers have decreased by 30 to 50 percent in the past four months. Some varieties of flowers have even registered zero demand…
