Flower Beds May Be the Next Great Place to Plant Your Vegetables
An enthusiasm for home vegetable gardening has been starting to pick up due to a growing demand for local, seasonally produced, interest in organic food and an increase in farmers’ markets. You can follow this trend by planting some delicious and healthy foods between your daisies and day lilies.
Charlie Nardozzi of the National Gardening Association writes the column “Edible Gardening” and he says, “When you take vegetables out of their normal context — out of rows or raised beds in a vegetable garden — you can be amazed by the look they give you. The different colours and textures at the leaves, fruits and flowers. There are a lot of vegetables that can provide colour and interest.”
Bush beans can make a really neat along a sidewalk or bordering a patch of perennials. Colour and punch can be added to the plants around your porch with ruffled kale or stalwart okra. There is no limit to the things you can do, and your flowers will only become more productive and beautiful.
