Farmers Lives Improved With Flower Crops

Northeastern flower farmers are seeing an improvement in their fortunes. Flowers are not traditionally seen as the cash crop in this mountainous region, yet they are bringing huge material benefits to the Le Loi commune, Hoanh Bo district and Quang Ninh.

Farmers in these regions have been growing flowers for the past decade. First the summer-autumn rice crop is harvested, then farmers rush to get their flower crops going, usually for the Lunar New Year festival (Tet). Flowers are not only on demand in their region but in Ha Long city and other cities in the province. Some flowers even make it to the markets in Hanoi.

Tourists also flood these regions for Tet, and they are all looking for the perfect flower to remember the celebration with.

This has become one of the main sources of income for families in the region, especially after it was discovered that the soil is perfect for growing flowers. The living conditions of locals have made major improvements as a result. Housing has made the greatest improvements, many local monuments, historical and cultural relics have also been upgraded.

The Agricultural Extension Association is planning to help farmers improve their yield by teaching them to grow flowers in specialized areas.
