Epcot's Gardens Telling a Story

Epcot Garden

Epcot Vice President Dan Cockerell met with media recently to discuss the Food and Garden Festival. He told reporters, “Our aim is to keep this festival great, but to keep adding to it. Our horticulturists are amazingly passionate and talented and it really shows.”

Epcot has seen a few changes over the years, with Cockerell moving to the helm being one of them. He sees the Flower and Garden festival to be one of the most appealing aspects of the park. He quotes Marty Sklar, one of the masterminds behind the park, saying it is “the only continuously running World’s Fair.”

The Manager of Horticulture for the festival, Eric Darden, says that the garden is aimed at appealing to both experienced gardeners and the average guests. He explained, “We use over 300,000 bedding plants and incorporate lots of eye-catching colours. We’re a story-telling company, so we try to use the flowers and topiaries as a part of that. In the beginning, the topiaries were just representation of the characters. Now, we have transformed them into actual characters. They have detail and expressiveness.”
