The wedding begins with a betrothal ceremony where the priest blesses the wedding rings and the couple. Both the bride and groom receive rings which are exchanged three times before they are placed on the third finger of their right hand.

After the betrothal ceremony, crowns are placed on the couple's heads by the priest or by the Koubaros. The Koubaros is the equivalent of 'best man' and can be a man or a woman. They face the altar while the Koubaros swaps the crowns three times on each of their heads. The crowns can be made from a number of materials such as precious metal, but flowers can also be a helpful addition. The wedding couple stand at the altar, joined by their crowns and holding hands. They sip wine while the priest reads from the Bible. The priest then leads the couple around the altar to represent the couple?s first steps into married life, the couple circle the altar three times while the congregation or the choir sings three hymns.
