Exotica
We all know what flowers look like, don’t we? Yet there are some very unusual shapes of bloom out there, mostly from the southern hemisphere: ginger, helliconia, strelitzia and anthuriums can all add colour and a touch of the exotic to a floral arrangement or bouquet.

Ginger is the same plant that we use the ground root of to give us the spice that flavours our curries, biscuits, sweets and drinks. It comes in a variety of reds and pinks. We use it in this bouquet , and also in other designs and vase arrangements.
Another popular exotic flower is the Anthurium which comes in a wide selection of colours from white or cream through baby pink to brightest red. These can be used in combination with other flowers to give a very original result.
Helliconia is another South American plant that can be used in striking contemporary designs. And last of all we have the popular favourite – Strelitzia or Bird of Paradise.
